A growing number of American power companies are looking at the possibilities offered by solar energy rather than fighting against it. The companies continue to refuse to allow net metering for distributed systems because, in their view, it creates a distortion between those who own solar systems and those who do not. On the other hand, advocates of net metering point out that many companies do not take into account the advantages offered by the distributed installation, which reduces energy transmission losses, maintenance costs, and the volume of investment borne by the companies.
