How much does an agrivoltaic installation cost?
Germans have compared the cost of agrivoltaic installations with the cost of ground-mounted installations. The former are always much more expensive than the latter. The substantial cost difference between agrivoltaics and ground-mounted solar results from the higher costs of tracking systems.

Agrivoltaics in brief: Enel experiments; Voltalia commissions a plant; Engie-Sun'Agri partnership
Agrivoltaics in brief: Enel experiments; Voltalia commissions a plant; Engie-Sun'Agri partnership
Enel Green Power is investigating how to add a crop to ground-mounted photovoltaic plants. It has selected nine different sites where different vegetables will be planted, grass, flowers, rabbits or sheep. The aim is to find out what grows best, and can provide additional income for the solar plant.

Voltalia has commissioned a 3 MW plant on a 4.5 hectare farm in the Bouches du Rhône region. The crops are topped by trackers 4.5 metres high that protect the crops

Engie Green and Sun'Agri enter into a partnership to accelerate the development of agrivoltaics
The aim of agrivoltaics is to protect agricultural crops from the vagaries of the weather by means of mobile solar panels placed at a sufficient height to allow the passage of agricultural machinery. These panels are computer-controlled to adapt to the needs of the plants, providing them with the sunlight and shade they require. As a result, the plants are protected in bad weather and can grow better. The installation is particularly useful for mitigating the effects of drought, frost, hail, etc.
In addition, solar panels provide energy that can be used on the farm. Thus, farmers can better valorise their production
In the partnership between Engie Green and Sun'Agri, Engie is responsible for the development, construction, financing and operation of the system. Sun'Agri will provide its agronomic expertise during the design phase and will be responsible for managing the solar panels.
During the last two "innovative photovoltaic solar" calls for tenders, in April and December of last year, the Energy Regulation Commission selected 37 projects using Sun'Agri's technology.
