Special panels for agrivoltaics
Greece's Brite Solar is building a 150 MW production line for panels suitable for agrivoltaics.
The panels feature new glass coatings and technology developed by Brite Solar for its glass-to-glass panels. One of these coatings has
anti-reflective and hydrophobic properties. It is applied to the upper side of the lens. The other coating is deposited on the inside of the glass of the same panel, and its function is to reject ultraviolet light. This light is absorbed by the coating and then emitted on the other side in the red region.
Electricity production is important as a source of income, but is secondary to agriculture. Energy production is lower than with conventional panels because they are optimised for the photosynthetic energy required for plant growth.
Like other agrivoltaic panels, they protect crops from bad weather, collect rainwater and reduce water evaporation.

Editor's note As Brite Solar has not been involved in the development of conventional panels, it has found a niche that is free from Chinese intervention, enabling it to expand.
