The SolarWorld plant would have a cell production capacity of 450 MW and a panel capacity of 560 MW. It would employ 900 people.

By producing in the United States, Sunpower obtains a Section 201 duty exemption from the US administration for its back-contact solar panels.

The company has not indicated what it intends to do with the cell production capacity. It has not indicated whether it has the capital to make the acquisition. According to PV Magazine, it had $257 million in cash at the end of June. In addition, it had $360 million from the sale of 8point3 and $25 million from the sale of the microinverters to Enphase. It sold 4.7 GW of power plant projects to Clearview Energy Partners.
