The global evolution of solar energy between 2015 and 2021
According to Ember, global solar production has increased by 23% in 2021, rising year on year from 188 TWh in 2015 to 1,023 TWh in 2021.
Solar power generated 3.7% of the world's electricity in 2021 and Australia is leading the way, deriving 12% of its electricity from this renewable technology - the highest proportion of any major country in the world.
Wind + solar provided 10.3% of total global electricity generation, up 1% from 2020.
