90% of floating power plants are in Asia

Floating photovoltaic (FPV) installations are being stimulated by the scarcity and rising cost of land. For this reason, China, India and Indonesia accounted for almost

70% of total demand for floating installations in 2022. The Asia-Pacific region will account for 3 GW of floating solar projects in 2022, and more than 90% of the global FPV market.

According to Wood McKenzie, the expansion of floating power plants should be comparable to that of ground-mounted installations, with growth of 15% a year between now and 2031. Yet with FPV development costs 20-50% higher than comparable ground-based projects, increased competitiveness in the developer and EPC landscape is helping to drive down costs in the sector.

With almost 150 MW installed, Europe is the second largest region in terms of demand for floating installations.

Editor's note Just as it is becoming increasingly difficult to find space on land, the same phenomenon is going to occur on water.lakes already occupied and rivers already equipped. So we'll be back to installing PV panels on the roofs of buildings, the only unoccupied virgin space.
