A new process to remove snow from panels
US scientists have developed a way to remove snow and ice from solar panels at a much faster rate than conventional approaches. The glass is coated with a highly optically transparent and super-hydrophobic film.
It uses "pulsed Joule heating": the passage of electricity through an electrical conductor produces thermal energy. Compared to Joule heating alone, Pulsed Joule heating significantly reduces energy consumption and the time required for snow and ice removal.
