This week's highlights for 26 November 2023

Highlight :

. The photovoltaic industry has embarked on a race for volume. They ended up overproducing, leading to a significant drop in prices. Initially, they benefited from the fall in silicon prices. In the second phase, they are forced to look for savings, innovations and ways of selling without losing too much on each panel sold. Are we going to see prices fall for almost another twelve months before they recover? Will there be an event that suspends this spiral to the lowest price?

Strangely enough, panel buyers may not be the winners in this price downturn.

. A look at panel overproduction and its consequences

. Will photovoltaic production slow down in 2024?

1st important point :

. Overproduction should lead to a 40% fall in prices next year.

. To sell, the price of panels will fall by 40% in 2024

2nd secondary point :

. The European Commission has asked Member States to refresh their PV targets for 2030

. PV installation targets in some European countries

3rd point (subsidiary) :

. In recent weeks, the battery industry has been far less optimistic.

. The economic climate is less favourable in the battery sector.

Other interesting points : .

. How many panels are there in European warehouses?

. The European Parliament passes the NZIA law (to relocate PV production)

. The shortage of skilled labour

. Financial year 2024: First Solar will have a good year; the Chinese 4 will have a poor one
