Energy communities in France

At the end of March 2023, France had 187 active energy communities, according to Enedis. They bring together 300 producers with a production capacity of

11 MW, mainly photovoltaic, and 2,200 consumers. The local authorities represent more than 100 of these communities. The scheme was authorised in March 2020.

Brittany, one of the most dynamic regions, has 22 energy communities. One of the latest to be set up is Partag'élec, which has been operational since November 2022. It brings together 130 consumers, including 18 buildings in the commune of Surzur, 107 private individuals and 5 professionals. Together, they share the electricity generated by a solar power plant comprising 680 photovoltaic panels with an electricity production capacity of 249 kW.

Editor's note We can marvel at the fact that there are 187 energy communities, but they only bring together 2,200 consumers, which on the scale of France's 68 million people is not very many! The rate is almost comparable for the French who trust self-consumption.
