Enercoop is developing a renewable energy production business

A supplier of 100% renewable electricity for the past fifteen years, the association obtains its supplies from 450 production sites in France. It has signed around twenty long-term purchase contracts.

(over 10, 20 and up to 30 years), including three major producers. The price is based on the cost of producing the electricity (between €40 and €70 per megawatt-hour), plus a remuneration for the producers. This remains fixed for the duration of the contract.

From 5% of its supplies in 2022, the association aims to increase the proportion of long-term purchase contracts to 40% by 2030. To stabilise its supplies, Enercoop is investing in the construction of solar power stations and wind farms, as well as in the acquisition of projects currently under development. In February 2023, the national cooperative decided to invest €14.5 million in this activity, representing 10% of its 2022 turnover.

Enercoop cooperatives already own 20 renewable energy production sites in France, with a majority shareholding. More than a hundred projects are currently under development throughout France, heralding a sharp acceleration in production over the coming years.

Enercoop is a network of 11 cooperatives working and campaigning locally for a local, socially responsible and inclusive energy transition. The Enercoop network currently has almost 100,000 customers, including 61,000 members, 447 producers and 243 employees.

Editor's note It is difficult to see how Enercoop obtains its supplies: 5% of supplies come from contracts signed for at least ten years. This means that 95% of the supply is on a monthly or annual basis and should therefore depend on the market price of electricity. However, the article states the opposite

The association owns 20 production sites and has 450 suppliers. It therefore has to renegotiate contracts frequently (between 0 and ten years). The sharp rise in electricity prices in 2022 must have prompted a number of owners to demand an increase in their terms of sale, but nothing is said about this aspect.

The association evolves like all suppliers: at the start, it enters into delivery contracts. Then it has to manage these contracts with the requirements of the various producers. From then on, the solution is to set up its own production assets, to avoid renegotiations, to know the producers' real costs, and to link production geographically to consumption.
