Study on storage in Germany

The Solar Storage Systems Research Group at the German University of Applied Sciences in Berlin (HTW) has presented the latest edition of its "Energy Storage Inspection".

Around 200,000 systems installed in Germany by 2022

(up 44% on the previous year), 98% of which were lithium-ion based. Here again, lithium iron phosphate batteries achieved a market share of just under 70%. Systems with hybrid inverters showed "rapid development" last year, with around three quarters of all storage systems being built with a connection on the DC side of the battery storage.

The results showed that lithium-ion technology, which dominates the market, is "currently still clearly superior" to alternative battery technologies. HTW tested 18 storage systems from eleven suppliers; the overall efficiency of the storage systems was assessed in the form of a "rating".e in the form of a 'system performance index' in two categories - 5 kW and 10 kW - in which systems from the German company RCT Power GmbH scored best. A total of seven systems were rated in the highest efficiency class (A). In addition to RCT Power, systems from Varta (maximum battery efficiency, minimum standby consumption) and Kaco (shortest inverter stabilisation time) were also judged "outstanding".
