A new system of solar roof tiles

German roof tile manufacturer Creaton and building-integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) specialist Autarq have designed a new type of solar roof tile. This is a smooth, flat brick

which acts as a support for the small monocrystalline PV cells supplied by Autarq. The tile has 3.2 mm toughened safety glass on the front.

The modular structure of this tile makes it suitable for complex roof surfaces. The tiles are individually connected to each other by plug-in connections when deployed. All connecting cables and plug contacts remain hidden under the bricks and are protected from the weather.

Editor's note It should be noted that no indication of yield per m² is given, either here or in the other launch announcements. If the prices are equivalent but the energy production is much lower than that of the panels, what's the point of presenting such products?

There are more and more proposals for solar roof tiles, but there is little talk of their commercial success. Is it? What is the opinion of professional installers? Does it meet expectations? There's too much vagueness surrounding these products to encourage people to buy in.
