Solar PV accounted for half of investment in renewable energy in 2021

Solar photovoltaics accounted for almost half of all new investment in renewable energies in 2021, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA).

2021 was a record year for renewable energies

with more than US$440 billion spent, will remain the largest investment category in the power sector in 2022. Spending will be evenly split between utility-scale PV projects and distributed solar systems, with both categories breaking the US$100 billion mark this year.

Editor's note 2021 was a good year for renewable energies, as the projects date back to 2018 or 2019. They were completed last year. However, the economic climate has changed: the rising price of panels and, above all, the rise in interest rates are making contractors hesitant. Despite calls for solar power plants to be installed, investment will be down in 2022 and 2023.
