European companies in brief: Astrasun, NREL: triple junction solar cell, Evonik: new range of additives, colouring panels

In Romania, Hungarian Astrasun plans to create an integrated plant for the production of chips (capacity 1.8 GW), cells (1.5 GW) and panels (1.2 GW). It will invest €267m. Production is due to start in 2024.

American scientists at NREL have produced a triple-junction triple-junction solar cell with an efficiency of 39.5a world record for any type of cell illuminated by a single sun. For the moment, this product is too expensive to be used. It could be used on satellites and in space.

Germans have found a new way to colour colour thin-film panelsso that they can be integrated into buildings. The proposed technique involves cutting the semi-finished elements into the desired shapes, then applying a conductive metal oxide (OMO) electrode in the required colour. The elements are then structured into panels using the back interconnection process.
