Enel Green Power is ready for a strong development in panels

The CEO of Enel Green Power-EGP announces that the company's heterojunction solar panel plant in southern Italy will be expanded from a capacity of 200 MW to 3 GW by mid-2024.

He also revealed that another factory could be built abroad, with the US being a possible site.

EGP is currently developing its next-generation solar panel technology, based on tandem cells based on perovskites. "Within five years, we will see this technology achieve efficiencies of over 30%, which is 50% higher than current efficiencies. We are continuing to develop our heterojunction technology and tandem panels. Our competitive advantage here is the technical know-how for both technologies."

"We will also work on launching a new technology to replace glass with cheaper plastic," he said. "This will allow us to produce lighter panels that will be easier to install."

EGP has deployed around 2.24 GW of new solar capacity in 2021. For this year, it is expected to add an additional 6.1 GW of renewable energy capacity.

In 2021, EGP deployed 220 MW of battery capacity for the first time

Editor's note It is particularly encouraging to learn that Italy's Enel plans to significantly increase its panel production capacity over the next two years. This is made possible by the technical competence of its teams. In addition, research and development efforts appear to be creating new product technologies. This very discreet manufacturer, 3Sun, has not wasted its time. Well done.
