India's new fast-growing sector: batteries
A call for tenders from India's Ministry of Heavy Industries aims to develop 50 GWh of advanced chemistry battery cell manufacturing units in India
as part of its generation incentive programme. It won bids for 130 GWh of capacity (2.5 times more).
The tender requires a minimum of 60% domestic value added to qualify for the government incentive.
IESA estimates that annual demand for ACC batteries in India will rise from less than 10 GWh today to more than 50 GWh in 2025.

Editor's note There is clearly a remarkable dynamism in India: the major groups have understood that they have to invest in their country, whatever the amount. They are supporting the political will and setting up the corresponding industries.
