Megasol, another manufacturer of solar roof tiles
Last year, the Swiss manufacturer Megasol presented a solar tile with an anti-glare coating. It is compatible with the most common tile formats and
that it is also available in different colours.
Solar tiles remain a niche product because their energy conversion efficiency is rather low and at the same time their cost is higher than that of conventional roofing panels. Megasol's two standard products have an output of 22 W and 55 W and its most powerful product reaches 99 W.
The photovoltaic tiles have a high load-bearing capacity and are hail-resistant. The Swiss manufacturer of photovoltaic systems estimates the service life of its products at up to 50 years and offers guarantees of up to 35 years.
The system consists of two components: the glass solar panel and a fixing hook. Each individual panel has a plus and a minus connector. Thanks to the long cables, the photovoltaic tile can be wired both horizontally and vertically.
The watt-peak prices of the rooftop solar panels are higher than those of conventional panels, but at the same time the photovoltaic tile also has a roofing function. "If you deduct the costs of a new roof covering from a Megasol roof, you get more or less the costs of a rooftop photovoltaic system."If you also take into account the longer life of glass solar panels, compared to the use of glass foil solar panels in conventional roofing systems, the costs of a tile installation over the operating period could be even lower.

But for this solution to be adopted, production must become industrial, and the price of the tile must reach a low unit price. It is also necessary, above all, that roofers accept to work differently: an electrician must be involved in the installation. In the building industry, however, innovations are accepted slowly. In addition, each trade is jealous of its own competence and field of activity. If it takes two guilds to do one job, the tiles will wait a long time for their installation.
