REC Silicon turns a profit in Q1 with $28m turnover

In thefirst quarter, REC Silicon reported revenues of $28 million (-20%).

Semiconductor business grew by 35%. Profit for this division reached $10.8m thanks to strong demand. The solar business remained marginal with sales of $0.1m corresponding to a silicon volume of 47 million tonnes. The loss for this division was reduced to $1.9 million

The company cannot sell silicon to China because of the tariffs introduced in the US/China trade dispute. It hopes that a solar industry can be reconstituted and that it can have a presence there. It hopes that the Moses Lake plant, closed in 2019, can be reopened in 2023, and that such a decision can be made this year.
