R & D centre for the recycling of lithium batteries

The United States is creating an R&D centre for lithium battery recycling, called the ReCell Center, to solve the problem of the proliferation of used lithium-ion batteries and the lack of supply.

in lithium, caused by excessive mining of the ore.

At present, the recycling rate for used lithium-ion batteries is quite low. It is less than 5% in the United States, despite the richness of their constituents, lithium and cobalt, which are in limited supply worldwide.

In January, the US Department of Energy announced a three-year research and development project on battery recycling. It has a budget of $15 million. It was entrusted to the Argonne National Laboratory.
