Strong PV growth expected in India in 2019
India's renewable energy deployment is expected to grow by 50% in 2019 (to 15.9 GW) after the "forgettable" 2018, according to Bridge of India
The deployment of large-scale photovoltaic systems is expected to reach 10.9 GW in 2019, surpassing 10 GW in a single year for the first time and well above the 6,833 MW in 2018. In addition, rooftop installations will increase by 50% to 2.4 GW. The off-grid installed capacity (that of solar pumps) will reach 0.3 GW. Auctioning of floating plants would reach 5 GW. Indians will start to adopt monocrystalline panels and micro inverters. Energy storage is expected to expand.
The price of panels according to Bridge of India would average $0.19/W, 26% lower than mid-2018 prices
There would be no increase in panel capacity, remaining at 3 GW.
Wind power would be 2.3 GW (+18%).
Above all, the major factor will be the general elections in 2019, which could temporarily slow down the expansion of renewable energies. The official objective of allocating 60 GW of solar energy and 20 GW of wind power by March 2020 is unrealistic, according to the engineering and design office
PV Tech of 9 January.
