Nuclear power plants are less and less appreciated

The 2018 edition of the Nuclear Industry Status Report (WNISR) reveals that nuclear power generation capacity has only increased by

1% in 2017, while wind and solar energy saw their shares increase by 17% and 35% respectively. The report also recognises that solar and wind power now have the cheapest electricity.

According to the authors, nuclear power is unlikely to be competitive in the future unless it succeeds in developing smaller, lower-cost, factory-assembled modular reactors with reliable passive safety features.
