2016, a record year for U.S. installations; 2017 is fairly comparable.

2016 is expected to be a record year for installations in the US, although solar projects of more than 2 GW have been pushed back to next year. Solar power plants make up two-thirds of PV installations. The extension of the tax credit means that 2.5 GW of construction will be carried over to 2017. The forecast for 2016 in the United States is 14.5 GW (18 GW were expected before this extension).

Installations in 2017 will be fairly comparable to 2016. The market will be driven next year by the projects of large companies as well as those of solar communities. There will also be projects for large power plants in states that have not been popular to date, such as Florida, Georgia and Texas. In other states, government decisions are leading to the construction of power plants because PURPA regulations force companies to buy energy if it is offered at a lower price than their own production, which is driving installation in North Carolina, South Carolina, Indiana, Oregon...
