The WTO ruling will spur India to find another way to favour its domestic industry, says Mercom Capital. Only a few Indian manufacturers have taken advantage of the domestic preference, as domestic preference projects are a small part of all Indian tenders.
During the trade dispute, US PV imports to India fell by 90% as India was flooded by cheaper Chinese panels (at an average price of $0.39/W). However, Indian manufacturers generally produce their panels 10% to 20% more expensive.
