Size of PV installations in 2024 in the United States

The United States is expected to add 36.4 GW of new solar generating capacity in 2024, representing 58% of its total capacity.

of all capacity additions, says the US Energy Information Agency (EIA), and double the 2023 solar installations of 18.4 GW.

Among the major achievements of 2024 are Renegade Renewables' Dawn project in Texas, which the EIA expects to come on stream in December and add 515 MW of capacity to the grid, or Primera's Gemini project in the United States.Primergy's Gemini project in Nevada, which is due to come online this month and will add 690MW of solar capacity to the grid, as well as 380MW/1.4GWh of storage capacity.

Most of the expected growth in the solar sector will not come from a small number of giant projects, but from a wide range of smaller solar farms, which will come online throughout the year. The EIA predicts that 470 new solar projects will come online in 2024, compared to the 220 storage facilities that will come online.

Strong growth in storage :

The EIA estimates that 14.3 GW of battery capacity will be installed in 2024. The EIA expects total operational storage capacity to double in 2024 from 6.4 GW in 2023.

Many of these projects are associated with renewable energy production and are becoming increasingly commercially viable for developers. There are also plans to build autonomous storage that will serve several local solar or wind power plants.
