Heat pump manufacturers complain about inconsistent legislation

The European heat pump industry is being "threatened" by inconsistent legislation and unfavourable electricity/gas price ratios, the European Heat Pump Association (EPHA) said today. However, "in 2022,

Heat pump manufacturers have invested heavily in their production capacity... Today, sudden changes in policy and unfavourable ratios between electricity and gas prices have shaken the confidence of end-users. This is a serious threat to the heat pump sector. It is slowing down Europe's progress towards net zero emissions and energy independence.

This message comes from sales trends in a number of European countries: in Italy, sales between the first half of 2022 and 2023 fell by 34%, while Finland and Poland saw a drop of 17% and 6% respectively.
