Electricity prices in Europe at the beginning of June

In the first week of June, prices on most European electricity markets fell. Negative prices were recorded, thanks to

lower demand, lower gas andCO2 prices, and in some cases increased production of renewable energy. Record production of photovoltaic energy was recorded in Germany on 3 June, with a daily output of 359 GWh on Saturday 3 June (+19%).

On the French market, solar production fell by 6%.

In the week beginning 29 May, demand for electricity fell on almost all markets. Demand fell by 3.2% on the French market. This drop is partly attributed to Whit Monday.

In the week beginning 29 May, prices on most European electricity markets fell compared with the previous week. Average prices in Europe were below €90 per MWh.

Negative prices were recorded on the Belgian and French markets on 29 May and 3 and 4 June, as well as on the German and Dutch markets.
