Recycling of wind turbine blades

Spanish company Acciona Energia uses fibreglass from used wind turbine blades to make the torsion beams for solar trackers.

The fibres of the used blades are reduced to the size of one micron. The resulting powder is versatile in its uses. It is simply mixed with resin and a reinforcing fibre, heated in a mould, and shaped into the desired form.
