New floating solar technology developed by the Engie Group

Engie subsidiary Tractebel has developed a new floating solar technology in partnership with offshore energy specialists DEME and marine infrastructure company Jan De Nul. It is called Seavolt

It is designed to withstand harsh marine conditions. The solar panels are installed above the waves on a large floating metal structure. It can be combined with offshore wind turbines

A test site will be deployed off the Belgian coast in the summer of 2023.

Editor's note: The system is ingenious, but the cost is not discussed. The structure is imposing, the distance from the coast makes maintenance and repair work expensive... It is an attempt. It will probably be quickly forgotten or transformed.
