Solar energy covered 25% of electricity demand in the Netherlands in August. This was due to more sunshine

(there were 40% more hours of sunshine than in a normal year), higher production capacity and lower energy demand.

The Flemish region of Belgium is mapping the photovoltaic potential of the region's 2,500 landfill sites. They cover a total surface area of more than 100 square kilometres.

The development of ground-mounted photovoltaic installations has always been difficult in Flanders, due to strict regulations prohibiting solar energy on agricultural land.

At the end of July, Portugal had already installed 578 MW in 2022, more than was installed in the whole of 2021. This was made possible by the law that came into force on1 January 2020.

While a small PV installation of 3 to 5 kW in Portugal cost €4,200 in 2021, installation costs have risen to €5,900, i.e. 40% more in 2022. This rise is due to the scarcity of labour, more expensive materials and the sharp increase in demand following the rise in the price of gas and electricity.
