Installing PV systems on barges?

Dutch researchers are examining the installation of PV systems to power barges and other boats using inland waterways. According to them, solar panels could provide between

5.8% and 7.2% of the energy requirements of container ships and bulk carriers.

Based on the actual characteristics and movement data of the Dutch inland shipping fleet, the specific annual PV energy yield for a container ship is 857 Wh per Wp; for a bulk vessel, 843 Wh per Wp. These figures are comparable to those for a rooftop PV system in the Netherlands, which is around 950 Wh per Wp.
