REC Silicon plans to relaunch silicon production at the end of 2023

REC Silicon plans to restart silicon production at its plant in Moses Lake (USA) in the fourth quarter of 2023, with half-capacity production scheduled for the second quarter of 2024,

then at full capacity in the second half of 2024. The company is currently overhauling the production unit. Hanwha, which has just contributed $109 million, is in discussions to buy the plant's production.

PV Tech of 30 May 2022

Editor's note Production at the plant will be relaunched in 2024 when the new silicon production projects in China come on stream. Prices are expected to plummet due to the abundance of very large projects. REC Silicon is likely to experience the same period of difficulty as it did a few years ago (in 2019).

Unless Hanwha intends to use this production unit to reconstitute a complete panel production chain (it also lacks wafer slicing and cell manufacturing activities). This will depend on the passage of the SEMA (Solar Energy Manufacturing for America) photovoltaic stimulus bill, which has been blocked by the lack of a majority in the US Congress.
