European battery manufacturers contest certain European provisions

European battery manufacturers are unhappy with the provisions to be adopted by the European Parliament. They consider that the proposal that individual battery cells should be removable and replaceable in European products poses a health risk, as all the cells in a battery must be identical.

Battery manufacturers no longer consider themselves to be producers of their batteries as soon as they are delivered and then integrated into original equipment in the same EU Member State.

Thirdly, the requirement for battery manufacturers to take back and recycle products manufactured by other companies in different industrial sectors is impractical and potentially dangerous.

Finally, "The obligation to take back industrial batteries and batteries for electric vehicles must be limited to products that a producer has placed on the market. The law must not require the return of products that have been placed on the market by other producers, whatever the size of their business... Such an obligation is not justified and could lead to impossible or dangerous situations".
