Heat pumps are unable to compete with gas for heating

According to the European Heat Pump Association (EHPA), heat pump technologies are currently unable to compete with gas for heating due to

high taxes and levies on electricity. This market distortion from taxes affects the operating costs of heat pumps and is felt most in Belgium, Germany, Ireland and Spain.
