Baywa r.e. and Dutch researchers evaluate the first effects of floating PV

on aquatic flora and fauna. "The first results of the environmental studies show no significant negative effects on the flora and fauna of the lake. They also found that the erosion of the banks of the 27 MW lake in the Netherlands has decreased. The analysis will be continued over several years.

Ciel & Terre, a floating solar specialist, and Akuo, a renewable energy producer, are modifying their partnership established in 2016, on the exploitation of the license of Hydrelio products in France.

The 2016 agreement divided the geographical activity: to Ciel & Terre, the activity in Asia; to Akuo, the floating power plants in France with the licence to manufacture, market and distribute the Hydrelio technology. Hence the construction of the floating power plant in Piolenc (Vaucluse). Since then, floating solar power has developed in France

Ciel & Terre has designed and installed 250 plants worldwide, corresponding to 520 MWp. It has developed all the skills needed to design and install floating solar power plants. From now on, Ciel & Terre will be the main player in floating solar projects in France.

Akuo continues to develop its own floating solar projects, and retains the industrial production of its own floats. By the end of 2020, Akuo had invested €2.6 billion for a total capacity of 1.3 GW of assets in operation and under construction and more than 5 GW of projects under development.

Editor's note: Ciel & Terre's desire to recapture the French market indicates that its expansion in Asia is not what it used to be due to the appearance of new competitors, often with cheaper tariffs or new technologies. It needs to regain business, which it hopes to find in France. In reality, it would have to boost its research and development budget in order to propose new technologies. Akuo, having understood that there was a big market with floating power stations, will either create its own technology or acquire the licence of a competitor. It is not certain that it will be the loser of the new agreement!
