Experiments with the use of hydrogen

Full-scale trials of hydrogen use are emerging around the world:

in ItalyThe Italian gas transmission system operator Snam, the certification consultancy Rina and the steel group Giva have tested a 30% hydrogen/natural gas mixture in the forging processes used in industrial steel production. "This test is a preparatory step for the gradual introduction of zero-emission hydrogen, first mixed with natural gas and then in pure form, in certain steel production processes. The blending did not require any modifications to the plant and had no impact on the characteristics of the final heat treated product.

In the NetherlandsThe four new pipelines will link the Rotterdam port authority and the Chemelot chemical industrial park, i.e. between the Netherlands and Germany, at a cost of one billion euros. They are intended for the transport of LPG-C4, propylene, hydrogen and CO2

In AustraliaThe AGN gas network has opened the country's largest hydrogen production facility. It has begun blending renewable hydrogen into part of its natural gas distribution network in Adelaide, South Australia. "AGN will blend approximately 5% renewable hydrogen into its existing natural gas distribution network to provide blended gas to more than 700 homes in parts of Mitchell Park, a suburb of Adelaide."
