In the Northern Territory of Australia, TNG has a huge deposit of titanium dioxide pigment, iron ore and especially high purity vanadium pentoxide. Vanadium pentoxide is one of the most promising electrolytes in the world and a key ingredient in vanadium redox flux batteries. This deposit provides the impetus for the extraction of vanadium and the manufacture of batteries.

The German HZB examined the structure of hydrogenated amorphous silicon (a-Si:H) with a resolution of 0.8 nanometres. He was able to identify "voids" of missing atoms and highly ordered particle zones with practically no hydrogen. The a-Si?H is a complex mixture of amorphous and crystalline type domains of nanometre size in which nanovoids and voids of different sizes are integrated".
