Financing of off-grid installations is stable between 2019 and 2020

Financing of off-grid facilities is stable in the first eight months of 2020 compared to 2019. It stands at €198 million.

This worries specialists

as it is 75% supported by only three companies.

Another reason for questioning is whether the banks will continue to finance the off-grid sector. Before the covid, the banks were more confident because they accepted a 16% equity/ debt split / 84% debt. This is much better than before, when it was half/half. Only these loans were granted before the health crisis erupted. Will the banks' confidence be maintained afterwards?

The sale of off-grid lighting objects has fallen by 26% in 2020 compared to 2019. It fell from 4.1 million items in the first half of 2019 to 3 million over the same period in 2020.

Editor's note The financing is stable year over year, and the number of sales has decreased by 26%, it's because the unit price has increased. Buyers have turned to more expensive or better performing products.
