Research and development work in Bordeaux and the development of a pilot line in Nersac
are in progress. The pilot line is expected to be operational in 2021 and will create 200 skilled jobs. The decision to build the first giga-plant will be taken at the end of the first phase of the project. Once the go-ahead has been given, the French giga-plant would be built with an initial capacity of 8 gigawatt-hours before being expanded to 24 gigawatt-hours. The first phase could be operational in 2023. A twin plant, also with a capacity of 24 gigawatt-hours, would be built in Germany by 2030.
Although the pandemic has delayed the project somewhat, the health crisis has shown the need to have a supply in Europe and to reduce the global supply time.
The transition to electric vehicles is accelerating in Europe. Electrically rechargeable" vehicles tripled their market share in the second quarter of 2020 compared to the same period last year.
