The world's 4th largest producer of solar inverters is Italian!

7 GW of inverters will be delivered in 2020 by Fimer from three plants (2 in Italy and 1 in India). This Italian company is now present in 26 countries, with 1,100 employees, and has one of the largest product portfolios in the world.

They are marketed worldwide.

Fimer has reached this enviable position by having just acquired ABB's inverters. This acquisition has just been completed. In 2019, ABB's inverters had a turnover of around 340 million dollars, employed 800 people in 26 countries and were produced in two factories (Italy and India). The R&D centre was located in Finland. Its comprehensive and innovative portfolio consisted of complementary products, systems and services. It was aimed at different segments and types of solar installations.

For the future, Fimer is counting on the development of advanced technologies, digitisation, the use of digital directories and advanced miniaturised products. It will focus on the distributed production of solar energy. Finally, FIMER will also focus on storage solutions, micro-grids, systems that interconnect electrical loads as well as distributed energy production sources in order to operate in connection with the national electricity grid or independently.

Editor's note A very large group (ABB) is unable to make a business profitable and faces strong competition. It therefore decides to sell its business. A small player (Fimer) believes it can succeed where ABB has failed. The buyer will bring a new analysis of the situation, a greater concentration on this activity than ABB did, a greater motivation because a new failure would condemn this activity. This does not mean that Fimer will succeed. It might just as well fail. The future is not written. It will soon become clear whether this acquisition was wise or whether it led Fimer to bankruptcy.
