A new solar roof tile, the BiSolar

The British company Roof Tiles Technology Ltd has developed a solar tile with a declared efficiency of 17.5% and a power of 175 W per square metre. Each BiSolar

has a power of 18 W. For each square metre, 9.7 tiles are required. The tile consists of a photovoltaic glass panel attached to a concrete tile and contains Chinese solar cells with an efficiency of 22%. The product has a 25-year performance guarantee, measures 445 x 330 mm and weighs 6 kg. The photovoltaic part contributes 1.2 kg and consists of 3 mm of satinised tempered glass.

An installation would cost 25-30% more than a standard solar roof. On the other hand, installation costs for BiSolar are cheaper than for roof panels. The company is looking for licensees to manufacture these tiles in other countries.
