Will falling electricity prices hamper solar projects without subsidies?

While many speakers are convinced otherwise, one participant at the SolarPower Europe videoconference believes that the pandemic will slow down investment in PV.

What will make you think about it will be the profitability of solar energy without subsidies after the fall in electricity prices. The Italian association Elettricità Futura, said that financing projects is a "major concern".

Similarly in Spain, current average electricity prices were €20/MWh, compared with €40 to €50/MWh at similar dates in 2017, 2018 and 2019. Banks will be more cautious with these low prices. Financial conditions will be tightened. The volume installed in Spain will be close to 2 GW this year. The profession wants auctions to start working again. Above all, the profession wants to abandon the concept of price based on marginal variable cost.
