New method for recycling panels
The Italian consortium Mia Energia has reportedly developed a technique to recycle 99% of PV panels. This technique would only take
40 seconds to fully recycle a standard panel, depending on the size and conditions of the recycling site.
This new recycling process starts with the removal of electronic parts and glass, followed by mechanical treatment, whereas the usual approach is thermochemical.
The consortium claims to be able to separate PVC, silicon and copper. Silicon is between 45% and 65% pure.
