What can be placed on the façades and what is the reaction of visitors?

Building facades have been equipped with solar panels and plant cultivation. Architects, PV specialists and farmers were interviewed. The results showed broad acceptance for projects combining crop cultivation and solar energy production, which the researchers called "productive facades".

A survey was conducted on the internet with four variants of productive facades. Questions covered topics such as the visual impact of PV panels and crops, preferences regarding the layout of PV panels and ease of use for owners and workers. Approximately 80% of the 97 respondents were architects, other engineers, PV specialists, productive façade experts, horticulturists, solar façade professionals, consultants and other professionals.

Architects and designers gave low scores to the four designs presented. Respondents with experience in horticulture, agriculture and PV facades showed a greater acceptance of building integrated productive facades.

"All agree that productive facades have a positive effect on the design of the exterior façade. They therefore gave them higher marks than presentations without PV systems and without vertical agriculture.

"A well-designed integration of the photovoltaic panels with the planter on the floor above offers additional benefits. It improves the quality of indoor daylight and obstructs the view of the interior to a lesser degree," says the study.

NDLR The photos presented are biased, as everyone prefers plants with flowers rather than simple grass. However, flowers are only present for a few weeks a year. These photos are reminiscent of real estate developers who present a picture of their future realisations where everything is dashing, cheerful and pleasant. They also remove their panels as construction progresses to avoid the contrast between image and reality.

This installation of panels forgets to specify the importance of the dust that will clutter up the photovoltaic surface and prevent it from producing energy.
