New solar road test in Holland

A 25-metre section of a cycle path is starting to be built in Rhenen (province of Utrecht). The energy generated will power the surrounding lighting system and snow removal in winter.

Another 350 m trial will be tested near the municipality of Maartednsdijk in the summer.

A cycle path near Amsterdam was equipped with solar panels in 2016. However, the feasibility and economic viability of solar roads remains controversial. The government's aim is to test the viability of solar energy production and road infrastructure.
