The governor of New York State wants to set up a programme to reach 50% of renewable electricity by 2030.

The governor of the State of New York wants to set up a programme to achieve 50% renewable electricity by 2030. He has asked the Public Utilities Commission (PSC) to set out the steps by June 2016 to achieve this goal.

This is not the first time the governor has set his sights on renewable energy. He has already introduced the REV (Reforming the Energy Vision) programme to bring renewables to the forefront. As part of this programme, in August he launched a programme to encourage the installation of photovoltaic systems, targeting 3 GW installed in 2023. Solar installations tripled in New York State between 2011 and 2014, with 314 MW installed.
