Sunpreme produces panels and soon cells in the United States.
The Californian panel manufacturer Sunpreme plans to open a cell production plant in Texas in 2019. A first tranche of
136 MW will come on stream in early 2019. A second 260 MW unit will be commissioned at a later date. The reasons for its choice come from the SunShot 2016 subsidy to develop copper plating, which allows for profitable production and the avoidance of tariffs.
Sunpreme is a small producer of high-end, high-efficiency cells in a factory in China. It assembles panels in the Philippines and since a month in California. Its objective is to build cells and panels in America at the same price as products made in China. 65 to 70% of its production is delivered to the United States.
