A flood of solar projects in Portugal

In Portugal, 81 new ground-mounted solar power plants, with a combined capacity of

1.7 GW, were submitted for study to the Directorate General for Energy and Geology (DGEG) from 1 September to 15 September. These projects will not be subsidised.

For the moment, the Portuguese grid cannot keep up with the growing demand for new solar projects. The regulator recently approved a plan to expand the grid to absorb more renewable energy.

Portugal will meet its 2020 target of 31% renewable energy in its final energy consumption and 40% by 2030. Europe has set a target of 32% for 2030.
