Details on the Chinese solar route

Inaugurated on 28 December 2017, the Jinan (China) solar motorway is 1,089 metres long. It generates 96 kW of energy

and 923 kWh per day. This is sufficient to supply energy to the motorway equipment. EnergyTrend provides details of the solar road mentioned in December 2017 (see Other solar road test in China).

This motorway is covered with three layers. On top of transparent concrete to allow light to pass through. This layer joins the photovoltaic layer, which is protected by the lower insulating layer. This process is guaranteed between 15 and 20 years, like a motorway with bituminous cement. At the moment, Wi-Fi is not yet available as not all the installations have been installed.

The energy production of this motorway is sufficient for high beam headlights, for billboards, for snow melting, for tunnel lighting, for toll stations. In the future, it is expected that these panels will be used for electronic signs, wireless charging of vehicles, snow melting, data collection and processing.

To install these facilities, the motorway will have to be lengthened and its cost cut by more than half: the existing section cost RMB 7,000 or €910 per m² (the current section cost €5.0 million per km). The cost would have to be halved, at 3,000 RMB or 390 € / m².
