The low price of gas, wind and solar power makes the plants unprofitable--

Studies by the American Power Research Group and Wilkinson Barker Knauer say that the current low price of gas, wind and solar power makes it uneconomic to

power plants using fossil fuels, and that it threatens the wholesale energy market.

For its part, the study by the American Advanced Energy Economy also points out that cheap gas is responsible for the elimination of coal-fired or nuclear power plants, and that their withdrawal has no influence on the reliability of the network.

The low prices of gas, wind and solar power are driving down wholesale electricity prices and even causing negative prices in some markets. Above all, it creates serious difficulties for owners of conventional power plants. A large number of electricity producers are heading for "a second cycle of bankruptcy".
