The Chinese have developed a 70 kW vanadium flux battery. It is 40% cheaper because it has a smaller volume. Its volumetric power density is 130 kW/m3.
Vanadium batteries are one of the most promising technologies for large-scale energy storage, due to their long life, excellent recyclability and low risk of fire. However, their absorption is largely limited by their low energy density compared with lithium-ion technology. Their initial costs are high.
